MATIAS SPESCHA / ESTHER MATHIS – ESPACES IMAGINAIRES

This year, the SPAZI SPESCHA is opening up to contemporary art.

With the dual exhibition entitled MATIAS SPESCHA / ESTHER MATHIS – ESPACES IMAGINAIRES, the focus is on a theme that is important to both artists: space and its perception.

Spatial installations by Matias Spescha (1925-2008) from the early 1980s will be exhibited. Esther Mathis (*1985) has created works for the exhibition that respond to the light-flooded exhibition space of the SPAZI SPESCHA. Both positions invite visitors to experience real and imagined spaces.

MATIAS SPESCHA. RETUORN A TRUN – RETUORN A CASA

“Basically, the highest level of art would be reached if my work remained where I was when I left.”
(Matias Spescha, 2006)

Matias Spescha’s great wish, expressed two years before his death, is now coming true in full: after the realization of his heartfelt project, the monumental open-air sculpture OGNA, opened posthumously in 2013 near the banks of the Rhine in Trun, exactly 10 years later the complete works in the form of his artistic estate are now also finding a home in the artist’s homeland. To this end, we have created a spacious, light-flooded exhibition hall in the former cloth factory.

The opening exhibition of the SPAZI SPESCHA shows Matias Spescha (1925-2008) in a way that has never been seen before in Switzerland.
