100 YEARS MATIAS SPESCHA

To mark the 100th anniversary of Matias Spescha’s birth (1925-2008), Trun Cultura is offering three major exhibitions in honor of the internationally renowned artist. Over the course of the year, three important contemporary artists from Grison will each present their own encounter with the multifaceted work of Matias Spescha.

In their exhibitions, Gaspare O. Melcher, Corsin Fontana and Not Vital present past and current works, which they bring together with selected works by Matias Spescha – from paintings and sculptures to drawings and prints. For all three artists, the older and already successful artist was a formative figure in their youth: as an artist, as a pioneer or as a friend. This homage shows that they hold his work in high esteem until today. Each of the three exhibitions focuses on a specific aspect of Matias Spescha’s extensive oeuvre.

Casa Carigiet: Interior Reconstruction

The birth home of the brothers Alois and Zarli Carigiet, was badly damaged in a desastrous fire in 2019. It was saved from demolition jointly by Trun Cultura and the Heritage Department. In an initial phase it was dried out with an emergency scaffolding and roof. Thanks to a generous contribution from the municipality of Trun, a wooden roof was placed on the fortified remaining walls. Its unstable condition requires flexible planning. The current construction phase will stabilize the interior and will be completed by summer 2025.

In summer, a section of the building will be opened to the public for the first time, from 2 August to 28 September 2025. Yet unseen original works by Alois Carigiet  will be on display in collaboration with his family estate.
